Completely New Displays Coming for Canon 1DX Mark III and Canon 5D Mark V?
According to a new patent filed by Canon, the company seems to be working on a ‘new kind of display’ for its future DSLRs. And it’s quite possible that the upcoming Canon 1DX Mark III and Canon 5D Mark V get these. The patent reads:
ventor(s): MOMOKI KAZUHIKO +
Application number: JP20150228312 20151124
Description – To provide a digital camera capable of reducing a diopter difference on an monitor with respect to an optical finder which are used simultaneously together with each other.SOLUTION: The digital camera with replaceable lens, includes: an optical finder 2 having an eyepiece lens; and an outside display device 1 for live view. The outside display device 1 is provided with a rolling mechanism which rotates upward, and a screen reversal mechanism. With this, the center of a screen of the outside display device 1 can be disposed in a right-upper part of the optical finder 2 when viewed from the back side.
From the patent and the images you can see that the camera in picture has a very large display with very few controls available. The controls are actually hidden behind the display screen. The company is also said to be working on new kind of ‘plug-and-play’ display units which will revolutionize how we view images in the camera.
The DSLRs in the patent images are actually the Canon 1DX Mark II and the Canon 5D. So could the next versions of these cameras receive these new kind of displays. It’s a possibility.
We will soon update you with this as soon as we receive more information. Stay tuned.
